Voiceovers Recording Room Preparation Tips

Mar
06

Are you one of those that have discovered your voiceover talent and will start producing a script for a professional recording for advertising? You may be working with a videographer or production team to create your voiceover script, but there are also several computer software programs and tools available to help you create the entire project from start to finish on your own.

There is a significant amount of preparation required to ensure that the environment in which you record the Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE voiceover will help you create a quality advertising and promotion piece. Here are some vital tips in how to prepare the room that can help you achieve quality voice over recording.

1. Check all your equipment. Booking the voiceover talent for the project and then wasting several hours testing equipment will cost you. ”Producing Great Sound for Digital Video” author, Jay Rose, expertly suggests that you should get the right kind of equipment and test it the day before production schedule. If you can’t test the equipment the day before production, then conduct the test a few hours before production time to reduce the chance of any unforseen delays.

2. Try to eliminate the echoes in the recording room. To check if the room is creating echoes, tightly shut all doors and windows, and turn on the microphone. Conduct some test recordings with all of the equipment so that the echo effect can effectively be reduced.

3. Consider using background music. In a professional voiceovers, there should not be any noise between the narrator and the listener. Create the ideal kind of audio space that sounds like the narrator is having a face-to-face conversation with the audience. If there is a lot of ‘white noise’ in the recording, you have the option to add background music.

4. Find the best position in the room for the recording. There are no rules about where to position the microphone, so feel free to move the mic setup into different areas of the room to get the right sound. By moving the mic around, you can find the area where the sounds do not seem hollowed or filtered in anyway. Move around to find the best fit.

5. Don’t worry about outside traffic or small rumbles. Noise like outside traffic and the hum of fluorescent lighting can affect the quality of a  voiceover recording. However, most mics do not pick up these sounds. If you notice that the recording is affected by these kind of noises, you can add a high-pass filter to the mic to reduce the pick up of these sounds.

6. Quiet vents, air conditioners and computer fans. If you’re working in a very small space, you may have left computers or an A/C on during the recording. Machine sounds can cause some turbulence in your recording, so try to turn these machines off while recording each segment.

Use a pair of headphones to monitor the voiceover recording throughout the production cycle. Take advantage of playback functions in a different room to make sure that everything is going smoothly; this will reduce the need to do another ‘take’ and can also help you address any problems with the audio quality of your voiceover recording right away.

WiFi and Network Security - Things to Know

Mar
06

Attacks on your network will be happening continuously on a 24/7/365 basis – attacks cause a range of issues from simple nuisance issues through to slowing your network performance and functionality and all the way through to causing your network and even worse, your data, to be lost or corrupted.

Attacks on your network are not just through email containing malicious code and attachments being sent to staff, or by simple web browsing and visiting sites which cause malware, viruses and Trojans to be downloaded – your network is exposed at any point where users (both authorized and non-authorized) can gain access to the network or wherever the network is connected to the outside world and particularly at the web gateway.

Security issues are very real and the losses which may be caused by attacks come with a huge financial price tag.  The damage is not just to your bottom line but also to your assets, and particularly your business reputation.  How many customers will be happy to learn that because your network security was breached, their private banking and personal information has been stolen or lost?  What do you think a business regulator is going to make of your inability to produce financial records when they ask for them? How about an inability to engage in email correspondence if you are engaged in a legal dispute?

Wireless connectivity is increasing and becoming an industry standard for accessing networks and the internet as well as being able to work remotely over the web.  This means that there is a never ending variety of opportunities to gain access to the network by breaking in through the wireless gateway or by taking control of a remotely-linked machine.

One solution is to strengthen application security.Application security deals with the software programs which your staff are using and security solutions need to be put in place in order to ensure that hardware they are using cannot be compromised by non-authorized parties and also, when they are running a program, it only performs authorized tasks.  For instance, an employee loses a laptop through theft – the laptop must not then be allowed to access the network remotely which can be achieved by using machine access codes, strong password policies to use an application and to access the network.

Another solution is to ensure that WiFi security is strengthened.Try it yourself, in your neighborhood, whether at work or at home, ask your computer to show you existing wireless networks (if you’re running Windows you can usually see an icon in your bottom taskbar on the right hand side). If there are wireless networks in the area, it will display whether they are secured or unsecured.  If you see an unsecured network, which is likely, you will be able to hop onto the internet using that connection and wireless router.  Effectively this is stealing someone’s bandwidth but more importantly, it is allowing a third-party to come closer to gaining access to the network core, your data and your hardware.

Server Virtualization and How it Works for My Business

Mar
06

Server virtualization is the means by which a network administrator is able to “hide” the actual physical servers and network hardware (known as “masking”) from the network users.  The network users no longer see a particular server or drive on the network, instead they see a “virtual” environment which contains their applications and files.

The network administrator achieves this masking by using software which divides a physical server into multiple “virtual” environments which are also isolated from each other. These private environments are also known as Virtual Private Servers (VPS), but they are also known by a number of other names too – containers, guests, emulations and instances.

Why should a business consider using server virtualization?

Server virtualization itself is part of an information technology development concerning servers and data storage.  By using server virtualization your network will be able to respond to the demand placed upon by users rather than an always-on state.  In plain English, you don’t need so many servers in your network because the virtual servers are only created when users need them; when one user has finished, their VPS environment effectively disappears.  Using server virtualization, you can increase the efficiency of your network from around 20% to up to 80%.

Fewer servers and the associated hardware (racking, hosting, power, routers, cabling etc) means reduced capital and operating cost and this is likely to be a highly significant reduction.

Server virtualization also prevents what is known as “server sprawl”, which is where new servers are added to host new applications when there is already limited capacity in the existing server farm.  This leads to reductions in the capital and operating cost of implementing new solutions, in many cases, this leads to enhancing proposed solutions and projects which otherwise would not be viable even in their basic proposed form.

You are also able to simplify and reduce the costs of associated with your disaster recovery strategy.Replicating VPS off-site is simple and inexpensive to do, and again you need not replicate your server farm or have stand-by servers which represent a huge saving in terms of cost.

Network support and helpdesk costs are also significantly reduced as virtual desktops do not need an engineer to physically visit the user. The support staff are also able to access the applications and the operating system being used by employees on their laptops and desks from a central location.  This also leads to a huge reduction in operating costs associated with support but in addition, less hardware also means there is less to go wrong so clients experience reduced costs, greater uptime and greater efficiencies leading to a higher Return on Investment (ROI).

Implementation and migration to a virtual server environment can be performed with minimal interruption to users and operations.  User adoption is also not relevant because users do not see any difference in their desktops nor with the service they are experiencing.  The changeover is seamless, so there are no issues regarding user education or barriers to adopting new technology and techniques.

The GDI Business Opportunity – Can You Make Enough Money?

Mar

Global Domains - GDI Review

Do you want to join the network marketing party? Then you couldn’t have missed those tempting videos of affluent people speaking of how they came into money through their MLM work. Global Domains International is an MLM company that provides an opportunity to generate income working from home. If you’re familiar with this company you’d have seen many videos of people claiming to earn six-figure incomes in this business. The business deals with promoting .ws domains for personal and business websites. The following is an honest review of the GDI income opportunity to help the aspiring rep or the existing GDI executive.

An Intro To GDI

In the 1990s’, the internet scene was monopolized by .com domains. It was then that Michael Reed and Alan Eizer hit upon the idea of selling domains that had a different extension. They settled on .ws, a domain that belonged to the state of Samoa since it was small and easy to market. They also felt this extension would represent the word website.  The MLM venture was started in the year 2000 and the business became a hit in just a few months.

The .ws Domain Extension

Global Domains provided customers with an opportunity to launch a website with a name they preferred by offering the .ws domain instead of .com extension. This was a new option and soon became popular.

The GDI Price Factor

The monthly fee charged for a .ws domain is $10. For this you get a website with hosting and email addresses. You could opt for a seven day trial product before you start your own website using the .ws extension. Once you register with the .ws setup, you become an affiliate of GDI; this means you could start earning for every person you refer.

GDI Business
You get paid $1 for every person you bring in.  There’s potential to generate more income when you refer more than five people in a week or 1000 people within a month. GDI offers its affiliates support through a promotional video that’s supposedly very impressive and sure to make people sign up. However, it might be difficult to get people to buy domains that cost as much as $10 when there are so many cheaper alternatives. People who want just a simple personal website wouldn’t be willing to spend $10 a month for a domain name. So the key attraction to the GDI WS product is the home business opportunity.

Making Money With Global Domains
-    With GDI, you have the power of the internet to promote your products. But it wouldn’t help you if you just forward details of this income opportunity to your friends and relatives and try to get them into the program. Even if your personal network is large, you wouldn’t find many people interested in their own paid personal website or in an income opportunity if they are busy with their job.

-    The net will open to you access to a world of people who are looking for opportunities to work from home.

-    Find out ways to reach these customers and get them to view your website. You could spread the word through articles, use facebook and other social networking sites. These are just a few techniques to highlight your presence and bring your business to the forefront. Take advantage of the vast reach of the net and see your business grow.
